After Rafa Marquez hauled down Portugal’s Andre Silva in the penalty area early in the first half, Ochoa was called upon to keep the match scoreless on the ensuing spot kick. A lengthy VAR deliberation delayed proceedings, but eventually the penalty was awarded and the 31-year-old ‘keeper stood equal to the task, diving to his right and pushing Silva’s effort out for a goal kick.
The Mexicans ended up grabbing the 1-0 lead in the 54th minute thanks to a Portugal own goal, and minutes later Ochoa was once again called upon to come up huge for El Tri.
